General Dynamics C4 Systems specializes in Human-Centered Design techniques that are focused on combining user feedback with capability requirements early in the development process to deliver the right product to the end user the first time. Our engineers and visual designers create graphical user interface software solutions based on information visualization, interactive data exploration and real-time collaboration.
The Systems Administration Support Engineer ensures that products and services meet the evolving needs of our customers. We are looking to hire an engineer to join our Technical Support group in order to support mission critical applications and maintain system stability through effective and timely support. We provide reactionary support to address unfolding events and proactive support to identify potential issues or opportunities for system improvement.
Duties include: • Act as a customer liaison at installations to respond to questions and meet other needs. • Document and track progress of customer support requests. • Translate support experiences into development requirements and/or standard operating procedures. • Translate technical language to lay audiences. • Configure, test, and deliver software – front- and back-end – per requirements. • Coordinate and participate in the definition, testing, and delivery of software enhancements. • Test and debug software at customer sites during testing and deployment phases. • Analyze customer requirements and assist in documentation of business requirements that define system deployment. • Work with Systems Engineering to determine optimal configurations based on field conditions. • Conduct root cause analysis. • Provide proactive configuration recommendations and problem analysis. • Engage groups (Engineering, Field Support) to help them understand how decisions impact the system (present and future). • Support development of training/documentation for knowledge transfer. • Assist software development teams and customers to baseline current operational practices and procedures. • Develop and conduct customer specific training sessions as needed at customer locations. • Develop internal and external documentation as needed. • Attend customer meetings as required. • Provide onsite support throughout the United States. • Carry a mobile device & provide on-call support. • Travel will range from 25% - 50%.
Education and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering • 5+ years of experience performing planning, design, implementation and optimization of IT systems • Previous experience working in a global organization defining and implementing infrastructure projects • Experience with customer focus, conceptual thinking and interacting with a diverse set of people • A deep understanding of multiple technologies including Microsoft enterprise solutions, server virtualization software and other related products considered part of datacenter infrastructure; Certifications in these areas is preferred • Superior written and oral communication skills, evidenced by the ability to communicate across all levels of an organization
Desired areas of hands-on experience: • Basic knowledge of Java garbage collection • CDP • CIFS • Distributed systems • FC • Fielding Java and XML-based implementations • Hardware install/break/fix/test • HTML, JavaScript and other client side technologies • Implementing new applications and product suites • ISCSI • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and /or Windows Vista • NetFlow • NetApp 2020 • Network topology (understands & can explain) • NFS • Oracle DB, SQL, or mySQL • Performance tuning • Server-side technologies • Solaris • Supporting large-scale mission-critical applications • TCP/IP • VMware • Writing scripts in Perl, Bash, etc.
Must be able to travel 20% of the time.
Applicant must be capable of obtaining a U.S. security clearance.

Additional Information May deploy and operate with US Forces in CONUS field locations
