Lead in the development of product designs and analysis and provide instruction to designers and drafters
• Follow the direction of and complete assignments given by the department manager
• Conceptualize and lead in developing new and improving existing designs
• Perform detail structural analysis and summary reports
• Create 3D models and detail drawings and data based component list structures
• Generate details and provide information for others to create finished drawings and data based material lists.
• Schedule tasks and be responsible for tracking project task progress and maintaining timeline/cost estimates to completion
• Write and compile tables and illustrations for technical documents
• Create and improve engineering computer program applications
• Have a thorough understanding of manufacturing tools and methods
• Have a thorough knowledge of steel and aluminum material properties and design codes
• Have a thorough knowledge of composite part and tooling design
• Provide cost estimates by having a thorough understanding of engineering development and manufacturing costs
• Support and make presentations to management, manufacturing, field operations and technical sales personnel
• Interact externally with and make presentations to customers and vendors on technical issues
• Act as project manager for various new development activities
• Assist with and oversee prototype fabrication and testing
• Write computer code for engineering applications
• Research materials, products and methods
• Testing of materials, components and products
• Assist at on-site installations and trouble shooting, domestic and foreign
• Operate alignment instruments and tools
• Operate installation tools and technical equipment
• Maintain equipment and tools
• Proper use of Company facilities, equipment and supplies.
• Protect Company corporate proprietary documentation.
• Complies with Company and departmental policies, procedures and regulations.
• Works during scheduled hours.
• Maintains quality output while meeting department production requirements.
• Use safe conduct.
• Respect other employees and their personal property.
• Work under the direction of the Engineering Manager.
• Produce Company compliant and accurate documents.
• Perform tasks in a timely manner.
• Inform manager of task status and conflicts.
• Inform manager of any job related problem.
This position is with General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics Government Systems, Inc., but which operationally reports into General Dynamics C4 Systems, Inc. Experience and Education
• Education: BSME, BSCE, BSET
• Five years of antenna experience or ten years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Design and drafting using AutoCad and/or SolidWorks.
• Mechanical and structural design analysis.
• Clear and concise technical writing skill.
• PC fluency.
• Microsoft Office and database ability.
• Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing workflow processes.
• Familiarity with design and manufacturing functions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Strong communication skills.
